Land Conservancy
The Land Conservancy of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington purchases and protects land around the Eastern Ontario region. When landowners want to make sure that their property is never developed or sold, the Conservancy acts as a guardian, stopping the demolition of valuable wild spaces.
They wanted a website that they could use to publish documents for landowners and information for interested parties. They also needed something that was easy to maintain, but which illustrated their mandate. Their hosting agreement specified absolutely no scripting, including JavaScript, which added to the challenge. The site is pure XHTML and CSS.
The final design was something that is clean, modern, and visually striking. The site itself is a "window" onto a wild area, and the information is a page set in front of the window. The background is optimized for fast download even on slow connections, and the site is made in standards-compliant CSS for easy updating, and is search-engine optimized.
Several video tutorials were made to increase continuity across changing volunteer-base who would be updating the site. These were made using Adobe Captivate.
